Adopting a Rescue Pup

It took over ten years after losing our dear Weimar Leah before we could bring ourselves to rescue a new pup. Leah was a special lady who lived to be 14 years old with lots of medical issues. We ended up having to put her down. My wife and I swore we never want to go thru that again. The thought of that day still brings all the emotions rushing back.
Well, fast forward 10+ years. Kathy and I kept saying to each other we still had love to give. Don’t get me wrong. Not being tied down with pets did allow a lot of freedom to travel etc. Then the day came. I kept looking at the pictures of all the dogs at the Licking County Humane Society and she popped up. Meet Maggie, our rescue pup who stole our hearts.

All about Maggie our rescue pup
An adorable 3 year old Pembroke Corgi. Our little cattle dog. The society didn’t know much about her, other than they got her at an auction. We suspect she was used as a breeder at a puppy mill. They generally use them for three years then let them go. She’s a sweetheart. Very quiet, which is unusual for this breed. Maggie loves to take walks and sniff around. She tolerates her feline brother who would love to be her best friend, but she’s not quite there yet.
The pup loves taking car rides and travels very well. We took her to Michigan and our rescue pup handled the 500-mile ride just fine this past summer. One of her favorite treats is her Yak Cheese chews. She doesn’t seem to tire chewing on them.
I think we’ve got a winner! We didn’t remember how much having a pup can enhance your life. Go get yourself a rescue pup and share the love.
